About Us

Community building is an essential component!

Construction Cares was born in 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, a time when uncertainty, loss, and isolation affected every corner of our community. Many of our sister organization’s members, through Communities Empowered Through Construction (CEC), found themselves out of work, grieving loved ones, and struggling to stay afloat. Our Executive Director saw firsthand the emotional and financial toll this crisis was taking on construction workers and their families. She recognized that while our industry is built on strength, resilience, and hard work, even the strongest among us sometimes need a foundation of care.

We started raising funds to
help pay rent!

What began as an act of compassion quickly grew into a movement. We started raising funds to help pay rent for unemployed workers, assembling care packages for families in need, and delivering lunches to essential workers who continued showing up on job sites despite the risks. Beyond financial help, we offered something just as vital, emotional support, connection, and a reminder that no one in our construction family had to face hardship alone. From those early efforts, Construction Cares was officially formed, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting the people behind the projects. Today, we continue to build on that legacy of compassion, ensuring that every tradesperson, subcontractor, and construction family has access to the resources, relationships, and respect they deserve.

Our Mission

We provide for underserved
members of the construction industry

We serve as a vehicle for the construction community to come together, fostering a spirit of unity and collaboration to support and uplift the larger Chicago community through various service projects and initiatives. Construction Cares also provides underserved members of the construction industry with the educational, financial, and emotional support they need to remain employed in their trades.
